See SNHI.1 & 2. High slope at the top of a steep east facing gorge slope. Upslope is a Quercus prinus / Rhododendron maximum boulder field, Above that on a rim edge is Quercus prinus / Kalmia latifolia xeric oak community. Below plot it seems to be getting more mesic with Tilia americana.;Plot is located just in the shadow of the gorge rim. The plot is littered with large boulders from a cliff brake on the rim above. Most of the rocks are covered with litter/duff. The forest here is dominated by sugar maple and black cherry. There is one large bark less stump in the center of plot. The trees here are tall and straight. One red maple in particular is 40m+ tall. Although there are several successional tree species the forest feels somewhat undisturbed. Possibly second growth stand. No noticeable skidder trails.
Representativeness
Medium, sized patch of a somewhat mesic cool colluvial boulder field forest. Maybe similar to sections of the Pringle Tract Gorge Slope at Camp Dawson, Preston County.
